EITO

EITO

EITO is a potter based in Bizen, Japan, who delights in throwing functional vessels on the wheel. He believes that in today’s post-industrial age—where perfection is often the ultimate goal—handmade crafts offer an essential alternative. For him, the warmth of the hand and the tactile presence of natural materials are what truly enrich everyday life.

Drawn to Western culture as a child, EITO spent six years of his youth living in the United States and the United Kingdom, immersing himself in diverse cultures. These cross-cultural experiences ultimately led him to rediscover the quiet beauty of his own Japanese heritage. Determined to share that beauty with others, he decided to become a craftsman. His passion for clay began in Los Angeles, and soon after, he returned to Japan to study Bizen ware in earnest.

EITO's work combines free, organic forms shaped on the wheel with the traditional earthy hues of Bizen. Each piece is unglazed and wood-fired using age-old techniques, allowing fire, ash, and clay to create one-of-a-kind surfaces that cannot be replicated.

For EITO, pottery is more than a process—it is a dialogue with the earth, the fire, and time itself. He continues to explore new possibilities within tradition, creating vessels that are both deeply rooted in everyday life and resonant as works of art.
